The Vancouver Canucks and the Calgary Flames meet in NHL action from the Scotiabank Saddledome on Wednesday night.
The Vancouver Canucks will look to bounce back from a 4-3 loss to the Flames in overtime in their last matchup. Quinn Hughes leads the Canucks with 19 points including a team-high 17 assists while Brock Boeser has 18 points with a team-high 11 goals along with 7 assists and J.T. Miller has 14 points with 11 assists as well this season. Bo Horvat and Elias Pettersson each have 13 points with Horvat posting 7 goals with 6 helpers and Pettersson going ahead with 5 goals and 8 assists this season. Tyler Myers and Tanner Pearson each have 9 points with Myers logging 7 assists while Pearson’s got 5 goals and 4 assists this season. Thatcher Demko and Bradn Holtby each have GAAs over 3.5 this season, with Demko posting a 4-7 record in 11 starts while Holtby’s grabbed three wins in 8 appearances.
The Calgary Flames will look to add to their 4 wins in 5 games after taking down the Canucks in their last game. Johnny Gaudreau and Elias Lindholm each lead the Flames with 16 points including 9 goals and 7 assists from Gaudreau while Lindholm’s got 5 goals and 11 assists. Sean Monahan has 10 assists and Matthew Tkachuk’s got 5 goals and 5 helpers for his 10 points this year. Rasmus Andersson and Mikael Backlund also have 9 and 8 points respectively this season. Jacob Markstrom continues to see the bulk of the action in goal for Calgary, going 8-5 with a pair of shutouts and a 2.38 GAA this season.
Vancouver is 1-7 in their last 8 games overall and 0-5 in their last 5 road games while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 Wednesday games. Calgary is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 4-0 in their last 4 games as a home favorite while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games following a win. Vancouver is 4-13 in the last 17 meetings between these two teams in Calgary and 1-5 in the last 6 meetings overall.
I find myself seeing if I can make a case for the Canucks and the plus money but the issue I have is that the goaltending woes in Vancouver won’t be fixed up any time soon and I just think that it’s going to be a while before there’s any smooth sailing in Vancouver. Calgary has been playing slightly better and I still think they’re too reliant on the top of that lineup for production, but at the end of the day, the production is still there and I think we see Calgary get the job done so I’ll back the Flames in regulation to get the ML price down.
