The New York Islanders and the Buffalo Sabres meet in NHL action from the KeyBank Center on Monday night.
The New York Islanders will look to build off of a 4-2 win over Boston last time out for their third win in 4 games. Mathew Barzal leads the Islanders in scoring with 14 points coming on 6 goals and 8 assists while Jordan Eberle has 6 goals and 3 helpers for his 9 points this season. Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Anders Lee each have 7 points consisting of 4 goals and 3 assists while Nick Leddy and Noah Dobson each have 6 points with a goal and 5 assists so far this season. Semyon Varlamov continues to be the guy in goal for the Islanders, picking up 6 wins and 3 shutouts in his 10 appearances this season with a 1.98 GAA.
The Buffalo Sabres finally return to the ice for the first time in two weeks after a COVID stoppage, making their 5-3 loss to New Jersey their last action back on January 31st. Jack Eichel leads the Sabres in scoring with 11 points including 2 goals and a team-high 9 assists while Victor Olofsson has a team-high 4 goals and 6 assists for his 10 points and Taylor Hall has 9 points with 8 assists this season. Sam Reinhart and Rasmus Ristolainen each have 6 points with 3 goals and 3 assists coming for Reinhart while Ristolainen has 2 goals and 4 helpers. Linus Ullmark and Carter Hutton split the time in goal for Buffalo through 10 games, with Ullmark snatching 3 wins with a 2.56 GAA in 6 appearances while Hutton has a win and a 3.05 GAA so far this season.
New York is 1-6 in their last 7 road games and 0-4 in their last 4 games as a road favorite while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Buffalo is 5-12 in their last 17 games overall and 2-5 in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 6-2-1 in their last 9 games as an underdog. The Islanders are 8-2 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams.
I get the allure of plus money with a home dog, but Buffalo hasn’t played in a couple of weeks, so there’s bound to be some from of rust at play for Buffalo, and a tough, physical and well-coached team like the Islanders is not a team you want to face in your first game back off of a COVID stoppage. I’m not trying to lay this price with the Isles on the road, but it’s not THAT steep and I just think the Isles have to be the play here so I’ll lay the juice with New York in this spot.
