The Carolina Hurricanes and the Chicago Blackhawks meet in NHL action from the United Center on Thursday night.
The Carolina Hurricanes will look to add to their 4-3 overtime win over the Blackhawks in their last matchup. Vincent Trocheck and Andrei Svechnikov each have 7 points with 5 goals and 2 assists to lead the ‘Canes while Jordan Staal and Sebastian Aho each have 6 points with a goal and 5 assists. Dougie Hamilton, Nino Niederreiter and Martin Necas each have 4 points with Niederreiter logging 3 goals while Necas has 3 assists and Hamilton has 4 assists on the year. Petr Mrazek has posted a 0.99 GAA with a pair of wins coming via shutout, but it was announced that Mrazek had thumb surgery on Wednesday, leaving him out of action for a few weeks and putting James Reimer in the starting role. Reimer’s gone 4-0 with a 2.19 GAA this season.
The Chicago Blackhawks will look to rebound from their loss to Carolina last time out. Patrick Kane leads the Hawks in scoring with 11 goals including 5 goals and 6 assists while Alex DeBrincat and Dominik Kubalik each have 2 goals and 6 assists for their 8 points this season. Dylan Strome has 7 points with 4 goals and 3 helpers and Mattias Janmark and Pius Suter have 6 points each with Suter logging 4 goals while Janmark has 3 goals and 3 assists. Kevin Lankinen has been in goal for all three of Chicago’s wins this season, posting a 2.09 GAA and 3 victories.
Carolina is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall and 6-1 in their last 7 games as a road favorite while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games against a team with a losing record. Chicago is 10-4 in their last 14 home games and 2-12 in their last 14 games as an underdog while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Carolina is 6-0 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams and 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams in Chicago.
I obviously understand Carolina being favored in this spot because of their hot start to the year. However, you have to think that there’s going to be a trip-up spot for the Hurricanes somewhere here, and while we almost had it last time out, I haven’t given up hope that the Blackhawks steal one here. All of Chicago’s success has come at home this year and it’s been where the Blackhawks tend to play their best even in losing efforts. I just think we’re still getting a nice amount of plus money in this spot, so I’ll take it with the Blackhawks here.
