The New Jersey Devils and the Buffalo Sabres meet in NHL action from the KeyBank Center on Saturday afternoon.
The New Jersey Devils will look to bounce back from a 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers last time out. Jack Hughes leads the Devils in scoring with 7 points on 3 goals and 4 assists while Ty Smith has 6 points with 5 assists in there and Myles Wood has 5 points coming on 3 goals and a pair of helpers this season. Kyle Palmieri has 3 assists and after Palmieri, five more Devils each have two points this season. Scott Wedgewood has a 1-3 record with a 2.80 GAA in 4 appearances while MacKenzie Blackwood has a 1.90 GAA and a pair of wins this season in goal for the Devils.
The Buffalo Sabres will look to bounce back from a 3-2 loss to the Rangers in their last matchup. Jack Eichel leads the Sabres in scoring with 9 points including a team-high 7 assists while Taylor Hall and Victor Olofsson each have 7 points with Hall logging 6 assists while Olofsson has 3 goals and 4 helpers. Sam Reinhard has 3 goals and 3 assists for his 6 points while Rasmus Ristolainen and Eric Staal each have 4 points as well on the year. Linus Ullmark has posted a 2-2 record with a 2.51 GAA this season while Carter Hutton’s gone 1-2 with a 2.65 GAA on the year in goal for Buffalo.
New Jersey is 6-2 in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record and 27-55 in their last 82 road games while the under is 13-5 in their last 18 games overall. Buffalo is 4-11 in their last 15 games overall and 1-4 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games as a home favorite. The under is 31-14-6 in the last 51 meetings between these two teams.
I get why the Sabres would be favored at home, but I’m not laying this kind of juice with the Buffalo Sabres in any form. New Jersey on the other hand has some value, but it’s frustrating trying to pick your spots when they’re letting you down more often than not. Instead, I’m going to side with the under. Both teams have talent offensively, but it just hasn’t shown up consistently and the goaltending actually hasn’t been all that bad on either side for the most part. I think we see a 3-2 game either way at the absolute best, so I’ll take the under in this spot.
