The Florida Panthers and the Detroit Red Wings meet in NHL action from Little Caesars Arena on Saturday night.
The Florida Panthers will look to bounce back after a 3-2 shootout loss to Columbus last time out. Carter Verhaeghe leads the Panthers in scoring with 6 points including 4 goals and 2 assists while Patric Hornqvist and Anthony Duclair each have 5 points with Hornqvist logging 4 goals while Duclair has 5 assists. Jonathan Huberdeau and Aleksander Barkov each have a goal and 3 assists for their 4 points while Keith Yandle and Aaron Ekblad each have a goal and a pair of assists for their 3 points and Eetu Luostarinen has 2 goals and an assist for his triplet of points. Sergei Bobrovsky has picked up a pair of wins and a 3.35 GAA in his two appearances while Chris Driedger has a win and a 1.95 GAA in his pair of appearances this season.
The Detroit Red Wings will look to finally bounce back after yet another loss following a 7-3 loss to Dallas last time out. Dylan Larkin and Tyler Bertuzzi lead the Wings in scoring with 6 points apiece, with Bertuzzi logging 4 goals while Larkin has 3 goals and 3 helpers. Bobby Ryan and Filip Hronek each have 5 points with Hronek logging a team-high 5 assists and Ryan logging 4 goals. Anthony Mantha has a goal and 3 helpers for his 4 points and Michael Rasmussen has 3 assists so far this year. Thomas Gries has had no luck, going 0-5 with a 3.04 GAA so far this season while Jonathan Bernier is 2-1 with a 3.54 GAA in his 4 games this season.
Florida is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 5-1-1 in their last 7 games overall. Detroit is 10-21 in their last 31 home games and 12-47 in their last 59 games overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games as an underdog. Florida is 6-0 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams and 6-1 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in Detroit.
I get why a home dog is tempting in most spots, but let’s be honest here. The Detroit Red Wings are back to looking like the team that struggled their way to a last place finish last season and were eliminated from the playoffs a month before the second team was eliminated from playoff contention. This Red Wings team that showed promise early on in the season is no more, they’re long gone. Florida’s the better team here with the better goaltender and better pretty much everything else. I just don’t see any other way to spin it here except to back Florida on the puck line and call it a day.
