The Calgary Flames and the Montreal Canadiens meet in NHL action from the Bell Centre on Thursday night.
The Calgary Flames will look to bounce back from a 4-3 loss to Toronto in their last outing. Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan tied for the team-high with 7 points with Gaudreau logging 4 goals and 3 assists while Monahan has 2 goals and 5 assists. Elias Lindholm has 5 points with 2 goals and 3 assists and Matthew Tkachuk and Rasmus Andersson each have 4 points with Andersson logging 3 assists while Tkachuk has 3 goals. Jacob Markstrom’s started all 5 games for the Flames, posting a 2-3 record with a shutout and a 2.62 GAA this season.
The Montreal Canadiens will look to remain unbeaten in regulation after improving to 4-0-3 after a 5-2 win over Vancouver last time out. Tyler Toffoli leads the Habs in scoring with 8 points including 5 goals and 3 assists while Jeff Petry has 7 points with 2 goals and 5 helpers. Jonathan Drouin, Tomas Tatar and Nick Suzuki each have 6 points with Drouin logging 5 assists while Tatar has 3 helpers and Suzuki has 2 goals and 4 assists this season. Joel Armia has 5 points with 2 goals and 3 assists while Brendan Gallagher, Shea Weber and Josh Anderson each have 4 points with Weber logging 3 assists and Anderson has 3 goals and Gallagher has 2 goals and 2 assists. Carey Price has a 2-1 record with a 3.14 GAA while Jake Allen’s gone 2-0 with a 2.01 GAA this season.
Calgary is 2-6 in their last 8 games overall and 0-5 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 12-3-2 in their last 17 road games. Montreal is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 3-8 in their last 11 home games while the under is 10-4 in their last 14 games as a home favorite. Calgary is 0-5 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I’ve been very high on Montreal this season, and that means something as a Leaf fan, as this Canadiens team has a ton of depth from top to bottom throughout the lineup and arguably one of the best 1-2 punches in goal with Carey Price and Jake Allen. Calgary relies on their top line of Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan too much and it comes back to bite the Flames like it has early this season and honestly, I’m not a Jacob Markstrom fan even when he was in Vancouver. I’ll lay the juice with Montreal at home in this spot.
