The Vegas Golden Knights and the Arizona Coyotes meet in NHL action from Gila River Arena on Sunday.
The Vegas Golden Knights will look to bounce back after a 5-2 loss to the Coyotes last time out. Mark Stone leads Vegas in scoring with 8 points coming on 2 goals and 6 assists while Shea Theodore has 6 points coming on 3 goals and 3 assists. Alex Tuch, Jonathan Marchessault and Max Pacioretty each have 4 points with Pacioretty logging 3 goals and an assist while Tuch has 2 goals and 2 helpers and Marchessault has a goal and 3 assists for the Golden Knights. Robin Lehner has a 2-1 record with a 2.68 GAA for Vegas while Marc-Andre Fleury’s posted a 2-0 mark with a 1.51 GAA this season.
The Arizona Coyotes will look to build off of their victory over Vegas in the last matchup. Conor Garland has a team-high 6 points coming on 2 goals and 4 assists while Jakob Chychrun and Christian Dvorak each have a goal and 4 assists for their 5 points while Nick Schmaltz has had his 5 points coming on 3 goals and 2 helpers. Phil Kessel has 4 goals and Derick Brassard has a goal and 3 assists for his 4 points. Darcy Kuemper’s seen the bulk of the workload in goal for Arizona, posting a 1-2-1 record with a 3.23 GAA with 13 goals allowed on 122 shots against this season.
Vegas is 27-11 in their last 38 games overall and 4-1 in their last 5 games as a favorite while the over is 4-1-1 in their last 6 games as a favorite. Arizona is 2-5 in their last 7 games playing on 1 days rest and 1-4 in their last 5 games as an underdog while the over is 8-0 in their last 8 games overall. Vegas is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I’ve gone back and forth on this one and It’s hard to fight against either side, so I’m going to back the over here. Arizona was a defensive-minded club last year but that philosophy has drifted away and the ‘Yotes struggle defensively like the Arizona teams of old. On the other hand, Vegas isn’t the most stout defensive unit either and I think Arizona’s got enough to pot a couple, getting us over the total at the final horn.
