The Nashville Predators and the Dallas Stars meet in NHL action from the American Airlines Arena on Friday night.
The Nashville Predators will look to rebound from their first loss of the season coming in the form of a 4-2 loss to Carolina last time out. Filip Forsberg and Viktor Arvidsson share the team lead for Nashville with 3 points, with Forsberg logging 3 goals while Arvidsson has a goal and two assists. Five Predators have two points so far this year, with Matt Duchene and Dante Fabbro each logging a pair of assists while Luke Kunin has two goals and Brad Richardson and Rocco Grimaldi have a goal and an assist each. Ryan Ellis also has a team-high 14 shots on goal while Roman Josi is right behind with 13 shots on goal this season. Juuse Saros has seen the bulk of the goal time for Nashville, going 2-0 in the crease with 3 goals against on 74 shots against for a 1.50 GAA this season.
The Dallas Stars finally take the ice for the first time this season after a very successful 2019-20 campaign that saw the Stars finish with a record of 37-24-6, good for 3rd in the Central division and 4th in the Western conference, ending the round-robin seeding games with the #3 seed. The Stars would take down Calgary in round one in six games and Colorado in seven in round two before knocking off top-seeded Vegas in five games to reach their first Stanley Cup final in 20 years before falling to Tampa Bay in six games. Tyler Seguin is back again after leading the Stars with 50 points in the regular season while Jamie Benn returns to captain the team and Miro Heiskanen has also back after logging a team-high 26 points in the playoffs last season including 20 assists. Ben Bishop and Anton Khudobin will likely split goaltending duties for Dallas again this season with Bishop seeing the greater chunk of action last year, but injuries forced Khudobin into the starter’s role come playoff time and Khudobin thrived, going 14-10 with a 2.69 GAA and a .917 save percentage.
Nashville is 1-4 in their last 5 games as a road favorite and 7-2 in their last 9 games on 2 days rest while the over is 5-2-1 in their last 8 games overall. Dallas is 1-4 in their last 5 games overall and 1-4 in their last 5 Friday games while the under is 5-2-4 in their last 11 games as an underdog. Nashville is 2-5 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
I think you could make a case for the Stars at home as this team’s been itching to take the ice for some time now, but the fact is that there’s still going to be rust to shake off and that’s going to take time while the Predators have already shaken off that rust and have gotten off to a pretty good start as well this season. I just think that the Predators, even on the road, with the short price is the play here.
