The Detroit Red Wings and the Chicago Blackhawks meet in NHL action from the United Center on Friday night.
The Detroit Red Wings will look to get above a .500 record at 2-2 after a 3-2 overtime win over Columbus last time out. Bobby Ryan and Dylan Larkin share the team lead with 4 points, with Ryan scoring a team-high 4 goals while Larkin has 2 goals and 2 assists with a team-high 15 shots on goal so far this season. Anthony Mantha and Tyler Bertuzzi each have a goal and two assists while Filip Zadina and Filip Hronek each have 2 assists for Detroit so far this year. Jonathan Bernier’s been solid in goal for Detroit, going 2-0 with a 2.00 GAA so far, allowing 4 goals on 55 shots against while Thomas Greiss has 5 goals allowed on 71 shots against with an 0-2 mark and a 2.59 GAA this season.
The Chicago Blackhawks will still be looking for their first win of the season after a 5-4 overtime loss to Florida to drop to 0-3-1 this season. Duncan Keith leads the Blackhawks with 4 points all coming via assists while Patrick Kane, Alex DeBrincat and Dominik Kubalik each have 3 points with 2 goals and an assist with Kane leading the Blackhawks with 18 shots on goal this season. Adam Boqvist also has 3 assists while Dylan Strome, Lucas Wallmark and Connor Murphy all have 2 points this season. Collin Delia’s seen the bulk of the work in goal, going 0-2 with a 5.00 GAA with 10 goals against on 73 shots against while Malcolm Subban has a 5.03 GAA after one start.
Detroit is 13-45 in their last 58 road games and 12-43 in their last 55 games overall while the under is 5-1-1 in their last 7 games as a road underdog. Chicago is 0-5 in their last 5 games overall and 4-1 in their last 5 home games while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games as a home favorite. Detroit is 1-4 in the last 5 meetingds between these two teams.
I get the Blackhawks being favored at home in most cases, but this Chicago team’s been awful to start the year and I’m not sure what Chicago’s trying to do with their goaltending blues but none of these guys are clearly the answer and I think it’s going to be a long year in the Windy City. Detroit has been a profitable fade for us last season, but the bottom line is that the Red Wings are actually playing well out of the gate so far and I think the wrong team may be favored here so I’ll take Detroit and the plus money in this one.
