The New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders meet Thursday in NHL action at the Nassau Coliseum.
The New Jersey Devils look for another win to build on their 2-0-1 record. The New Jersey Devils are averaging two goals per game and are scoring on zero percent of their power play opportunities. Miles Wood leads New Jersey with three goals, Jack Hughes has four assists and Nikita Gusev has 10 shots on goal. Defensively, the New Jersey Devils are allowing 1.5 goals per game and are killing 71.4 percent of their opponents power plays. Mackenzie Blackwood has allowed six goals on 115 shots faced.
The New York Islanders look for another win to build on their 2-1 start to the season. The New York Islanders are averaging 1.7 goals per game and are scoring on 11.8 percent of their power play opportunities. Anders Lee leads New York with two goals, Nick Leddy has two assists and Adam Pelech has seven shots on goal. Defensively, the New York Islanders are allowing 1.7 goals per game and are killing 92.9 percent of their opponents power plays. Semyon Varlamov has given up zero goals on 51 shots faced and Ilya Sorokin has allowed five goals on 32 shots.
The Devils are 20-45 in their last 65 Thursday games. The Islanders are 2-5 in their last 7 Thursday games and 10-3 in their last 13 games playing on 2 days rest. The under is 10-4 in Devils last 14 overall. The under is 5-0-1 in Islanders last 6 overall. The Devils are 2-10 in the last 12 meetings in New York and 8-21 in the last 29 meetings.
The New Jersey Devils are off to a strong start and could be a team to watch this season if it continues. However, the New York Islanders have become one of my favorite teams to back in this sport, as you just know what you're getting on a nightly basis in their coaching and defensive effort. The Islanders compete each time they take the ice and they're producing positive results. The Islanders have also owned the Devils over the years. I won't take the PL here because of the Islanders subpar offense, but I still like them to squeeze out a victory.
