The Vancouver Canucks and the Calgary Flames meet in NHL action from the Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday night.

The Vancouver Canucks will look to bounce back after a 5-2 loss to the Calgary Flames in their last game to fall to 1-1-0 on the year. Edmonton jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play before Nate Schmidt got the Canucks on the board just over three minutes into the second period. Edmonton would restore the two-goal cushion at the 8:26 mark of the 2nd but Tyler Motte would make it a 3-2 game just 1:55 later. That was as close as Vancouver would get though as the Oilers restored the two-goal lead again later in the 2nd frame and added a 5th goal for insurance to close out the deal in the 3rd. Thatcher Demko took the loss, falling to 0-1-0 on the year after allowing 5 goals on 46 shots faced in the losing effort.

The Calgary Flames will look to rebound from a 4-3 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets last time out. Matthew Tkachuk opened the scoring for the Flames just 4:28 into the game but Winnipeg would tie things at one less than three minutes later. Johnny Gaudreau restored Calgary’s lead just after the midway point of the 1st and Elias Lindholm pushed the lead to 3-1 at the end of 20 minutes of play. The Jets would pull a goal back early in the second before tying the game at three with less than five to play in the second period. Neither side would find a go-ahead goal in the 3rd, so it was off to OT where Winnipeg would bury the game winner just over a minute into the extra frame. Jacob Markstrom took the loss, falling to 0-0-1 after allowing all 4 goals on 34 shots faced in the losing effort.

Vancouver is 8-3 in their last 11 road games and 8-3 in their last 11 games as a road underdog while the over is 9-3 in their last 12 games against a team with a losing record. Calgary is 0-4 in their last 4 games overall and 7-2 in their last 9 games as a favorite while the over is 6-1 in their last 8 Saturday games. Vancouver is 4-11 in the last 15 meetings between these two teams in Calgary. I’ve gone back and forth on this game and while the Canucks haven’t had much luck in Calgary, I think this game should be closer to a coin flip than where it’s at right now so I’ll take a shot with Vancouver and the plus money in this spot.
