The San Jose Sharks and the Arizona Coyotes meet in NHL action from the Gila River Arena on Saturday night.
The San Jose Sharks will look to build on their season-opening 4-3 win over the Coyotes in their last matchup in a shootout. Tomas Heryl struck with a pair of goals 4:08 apart in the middle part of the 1st period before Conor Gardland pulled a goal back for the Avs to get Arizona on the boat just under 4 minutes to go in the middle period, the lone goal of the second period on either side. ‘
Evander Kane restored the two-goal lead for San Jose just after the midway point of the 3rd period but Clayton Keller would pull a goal back with 3:30 to play and Phil Kessel would tie the game at three with four seconds to play. Overtime solves nothing so it was off to the shootout where Boston would pick up the win to start their season on the right note.
Martin Jones got the win between the sticks for the Sharks after stopping 34 of 37 shots faced in the winning effort while Darcy Kuemper took the loss after allowing 3 goals on 35 shots in regulation and OT.
San Jose is 1-4 in their last 5 games overall and 1-5 in their last 6 road games while the under is 8-0 in their last 8 Saturday games. Arizona is 1-5 in their last 6 games overall and 7-3 in their last 10 home games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. The road team is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings between these two teams.
I get that it’s hard to beat the same team in as many days in a back-to-back spot, but we cashed on San Jose in game one and I think we have just as good of a chance here as well. I still have major trust issues with the Coyotes as this is a team that perennially underwhelms, and I just don’t see that changing with all of the turnover from last season. The Sharks a lot better than their record from last year and I think we see another glimpse of why as the Sharks get another W here.
