The St. Louis Blues and the Colorado Avalanche square off in NHL action from the Ball Arena on Friday night.
The St. Louis Blues will try to sweep the back-to-back set with the Avs after taking the first half of the double dip by a final score of 4-1 last time out. Colorado opened the scoring just under five minutes into the game thanks to Andre Burakovsky’s power play marker, but Oskar Sundqvist would tie the game up at one goal apiece just before the midway point of the opening frame. Jordan Kyrou gave St. Louis the lead less than four minutes later and from that point on, the Blues wouldn’t look back. The 2-1 score held until the 3rd where Kyle Clifford pushed St. Louis’ lead to 3-1 just under seven minutes into the period and Sundqvist made it a 4-1 game with his 2nd tally of the game with just over five minutes to go. St. Louis would ride that lead to the finish line and open their season on a high note with some revenge over the Avs from the bubble.
Jordan Binnington got the win in goal for St. Louis after stopping 26 of the 27 shots he faced in the winning effort while Phillip Grubauer ended up with the defeat after giving up four goals on 32 shots faced in the loss for Colorado.
St. Louis is 8-3 in their last 11 road games and 3-7 in their last 10 games overall while the under is 6-2-1 in their last 9 games against a team with a losing record. Colorado is 1-4 in their last 5 home games and 1-4 in their last 5 games as a home favorite while the over is 9-2 in their last 11 games overall. St. Louis is 16-6 in the last 22 meetings between these two teams.
We saw plenty of scoring from the Blues in the opener, but I’m expecting the Avs to make some adjustments here to try to bounce back for the split. On the other side, I think the Blues continue their strong defense that we saw from the opener and as such, I’ll side with the under as my free pick for this game but my stronger play is on the side and I have that available as a premium pick that you can find in one of my longer term packages here.
