The Boston Bruins and the Calgary Flames meet in NHL action from the Scotiabank Saddledome on Friday night.
The Boston Bruins will try to add to their current four-game winning streak after a 2-1 overtime win over Edmonton last time out. Patrice Bergeron opened the scoring for Boston just over eight minutes into the 1stand the lead would hold through the 2nd intermission before Edmonton tied the game at one less than four minutes into the 3rd period. The rest of regulation time wouldn’t produce a winner, so it was off to overtime where David Pastrnak potted the winner for Boston just over a minute into OT. Tuukka Rask got the win to improve to 23-5-6 on the year after stopping 28 of 29 shots faced in the winning effort.
The Calgary Flames will look to build on a 6-4 win over Anaheim in their last outing. The game was scoreless through the opening 20 minutes before Anaheim took the lead just under six minutes into the 2nd. Andrew Mangiapane tied the game at one just :53 later but Anaheim would retake the lead just past the midway point of the 2nd period. The Ducks would push the lead to 3-1 just over three minutes into the 3rd but Mangiapane would cut the deficit to 3-2 with his 2nd goal of the game just 1:41 later and Sam Bennett tied the game at three just :19 after that. Matthew Tkachuk and Sean Monahan pushed the lead to 5-3 with goals 1:04 apart before Mangiapane made it 6-3 in the last minute of the game, completing his hat trick by scoring on an empty net. Anaheim pulled a goal back with seconds to go, but it was too little too late as Calgary locked up the win. Cam Talbot got the win to improve to 9-9-1 on the year after stopping 26 of 30 shots faced in the winning effort.
Boston is 10-1 in their last 11 games overall and 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games following a win. Calgary is 1-5 in their last 6 home games and 1-5 in their last 6 games following a win while the over is 6-0 in their last 6 games overall. Boston is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
On the surface, plus money with Calgary at home is worth a look. However, the Flames haven’t been overly dominant at home lately, and the Flames have had trouble following up wins on a consistent basis over the last couple of weeks. Boston is just rolling along right now, and even on the road, this is a pretty good price considering how hot Boston has been. I’ll lay the juice with the Bruins in this spot.
