The New York Rangers and the Chicago Blackhawks meet in NHL action from the United Center on Wednesday night.
The New York Rangers will look to rebound from a 3-1 loss to the Boston Bruins in their last outing. Boston would open the scoring late in the 1st period and would double their lead late in the 2nd with the lone goal of the middle period. Mika Zibanejad would pull a goal back for the Rangers just before the midway point of the 3rd period, but it wasn’t enough as the Boston locked up the win with an empty-netter in the final minute of play. Alexandar Georgiev ended up with the loss, falling to 14-12-1 on the year after stopping 31 of 33 shots faced in the losing effort.
The Chicago Blackhawks will look to rebound from a 3-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets in their last outing. Ryan Carpenter opened the scoring for Chicago with the lone goal of the opening period before Winnipeg tied the game at one just under seven minutes into the 2nd and took the lead with just over four minutes to go in the middle frame. Patrick Kane tied the game at two for Chicago in the last minute of the 2nd period, but Winnipeg would take the lead for good less than two minutes into the 3rd period as Chicago wouldn’t be able to find the game-tying goal in the remaining 18+ minutes. Corey Crawford took the loss, falling to 10-16-3 on the year after stopping 35 of 38 shots faced in the losing effort.
New York is 5-0 in their last 5 road games and 4-1 in their last 5 games overall while the over is 10-3 in their last 13 games against the Western Conference. Chicago is 1-6 in their last 7 games overall and 1-4 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games as a home favorite. New York is 1-4 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I get Chicago being favored because they’re at home and the Blackhawks are running out of chances to pick themselves up and get back into the playoff hunt. However, New York’s been playing heads and shoulders the better hockey of the two as of late and I just think the Rangers flex some of their in-form talent and get the job done with a win on the road here. I’ll take a shot with the Rangers and the plus money in this one.
