The Arizona Coyotes and the Montreal Canadiens meet in NHL action from the Bell Centre on Monday night.
The Arizona Coyotes will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 4-2 loss to Boston last time out. The game was scoreless through the opening 20 minutes before Phil Kessel broke the deadlock just over three minutes into the 2nd period. Boston tied the game just before the seven minute mark of the 2nd period and surged ahead 3-1 with a pair of goals 2:29 apart. Jakub Chychrun pulled the Coyotes back to within a goal :26 into the 3rd period. The Coyotes would try to break the deadlock the rest of the way, but Boston would hold serve and would ice the win with an empty-netter in the final minute, sending Arizona back empty-handed. Adin Hill took the loss, falling to 2-3-2 on the year after allowing 3 goals on 32 shots faced in the losing effort.
The Montreal Canadiens will look to build on their current three-game winning streak after a 2-1 overtime win over Toronto last time out. The game saw both sides hold strong through 40 minutes as neither side scored by the 2nd intermission. Toronto broke the tie just over a minute into the 3rd period and Montreal tied the game with just 2:33 to play thanks to hometown boy Marco Scandella. The game needed OT, and both sides traded early chances but it was Ilya Kovalchuk that would pot the rebound in extra time to give the Habs the win and a key extra point in the playoff race. Carey Price got the win to improve to 24-18-4 on the year after stopping 22 of 23 shots faced in the winning effort.
Arizona is 1-7 in their last 8 games overall and 0-6 in their last 6 road games while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record. Montreal is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall and 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 12-3-1 in their last 16 home games. Arizona is 6-17-2 in the last 25 meetings between these two teams and 3-8-1 in the last 12 meetings between these two teams in Montreal.
This line feels a bit funny that it’s this light, but I’m going to bite on it. Arizona is sliding right now, and playing on the road hasn’t helped as the Coyotes have dropped 6 straight away from home. Montreal’s three wins during this winning streak have needed extra time to settle things, so the puck line or regulation plays may not be the ideal if those trends continue, but the price is cheap enough that Montreal is worth laying the juice in this spot. Give me the Canadiens here.
