The Dallas Stars and the Vegas Golden Knights meet in game five of their best-of-seven Western Conference playoff series in NHL action from Rogers Place on Monday night.
The Dallas Stars come into this one looking to wrap up the series and advance to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 2000 after going up 3-1 in the series with a 2-1 win over Vegas in their last game.
The game was scoreless through the opening 20 minutes, but Alec Martinez would open the scoring for the Golden Knights on the power play just under eight minutes into the second period. Joe Pavelski would tie the game at one for Dallas just under four minutes later and Jamie Benn would push Dallas in front 2-1 with a power play goal of their own with just under a minute to go in the middle frame. Vegas would outshoot Dallas 9-6 in the 3rd and 33-20 in the game, but in the end, the Stars would hold on for a massive win and push Vegas to the brink of elimination.
Anton Khudobin got the win after stopping 32 of 33 shots faced in the winning effort between the pipes for Dallas while Robin Lehner took the loss in goal for Vegas after allowing both goals on 20 shots faced in defeat.
Dallas is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 5-2 in their last 7 conference final games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games as an underdog. Vegas is 23-9 in their last 32 games overall and 16-6 in their last 22 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 7-0 in their last 7 games overall. The under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
This series has been a defensive struggle for the most part and with so much at stake in game five, I’m having a hard time convicing myself that it’s going to be much different here. Vegas has their lives and season on the line and Dallas wants to lock this up as soon as possible and not give Vegas a crack to sneak back into the series. I’ll side with the under here but my stronger play is on who wins this game, and I have that available as a premium pick that you can find here.
