The New York Islanders and the Philadelphia Flyers meet in game five of their best-of-seven Eastern Conference semi-final series in NHL action from Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday night.
The New York Islanders will try to close out the series and make it to their first conference final since 1993 after taking a 3-1 series lead over Philadelphia with a 3-2 win over the Flyers in game four last time out.
The game was scoreless through the opening 20 minutes but Brock Nelson would give the Islanders the lead just before the seven minute mark of the second frame. Sean Couturier would tie the game at one for the Flyers with less than five minutes to go in the period, but Jean-Gabriel Pageau would restore New York’s lead just over seven minutes into the third period. Nelson would add an insurance goal just after the midway point, with his second goal of the game making it a 3-1 Islanders lead. Ivan Provorov made things interesting by cutting the Flyers’ deficit to 3-2 with just over a minute to go, but that’s as close as Philadelphia would get as the Islanders slammed the door shut on any comeback attempt in the final minute. Thomas greiss got the win in goal for New York after stopping 36 of 38 shots faced in the win while Brian Elliott took the loss between the pipes for the Flyers after giving up three goals on 33 shots faced in defeat.
New York is 8-2 in their last 10 games overall and 5-2 in their last 7 games following a win while the over is 13-1-2 in their last 16 Tuesday games. Philadelphia is 1-7 in their last 8 conference semi-final games and 16-7 in their last 23 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 4-0-1 in their last 5 games as an underdog. New York is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.
Five almost feels like the magic number for this series as the one game that went over needed overtime but three of the other four games have seen exactly four goals. I expect this game to be no different with so much at stake, so give me the under here, but my stronger play is on who I think wins this game, and I have that available as a premium pick that you can find here.
