The Dallas Stars and the Calgary Flames meet in game six of their best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarter-final series from Rogers Place on Thursday.
The Dallas Stars will try to close out the series after taking a 3-2 series lead with a 2-1 win over the Flames in their last game.
Jamie Benn opened the scoring short-handed for the Stars just after the midway point of the opening period but Mikael Backlund would tie the game at one in the last minute of the opening period for Calgary with an unassisted tally. The tie held through the entire second period, but John Klingberg would give Dallas a 3-2 lead 1:12 into the 3rd period, and despite Calgary owning a decisive 17-6 edge in shots on goal in the 3rd period, the Stars wouldn’t break as Dallas held on for the win and pushed the Flames to the brink of elimination.
Anton Khudobin got the win in goal for Dallas after stopping 28 of 29 shots faced in the winning effort while Cam Talbot took the loss for Calgary between the pipes after allowing both goals on 32 shots faced in defeat.
Dallas is 4-10 in their last 14 games overall and 2-5 in their last 7 games following a win while the under is 49-23-6 in their last 78 games as a favorite. Calgary is 7-20 in their last 27 playoff games as an underdog and 3-11 in their lat 15 conference quarter-final games while the over is 16-7-1 in their last 24 games against a team with a winning record. Dallas is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings between these two teams.
I think a game seven is one of the most exciting scenarios in all of pro sports as the guys go and leave it all out because for one team there’s no tomorrow. The problem here is that I think that there’s no tomorrow for Calgary after game six. The Flames just haven’t been able to figure out how to beat Dallas lately and Anton Khudobin’s really stepped up his game with Ben Bishop out of the lineup. Dallas has gotten back to their defensive style of hockey lately and it’s paid dividends as the wins have been coming and I think the Stars get the most important win yet with a victory here to eliminate the Flames and move on to the Western Conference semi-finals. Give me the Stars here and lay the juice with Dallas.
