The Boston Bruins and the Carolina Hurricanes meet in game three of their best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarter-final matchup in NHL action from Scotiabank Arena on Saturday.
The Boston Bruins will look to bounce back and regain the lead in the series after the ‘Canes evened things up at one win apiece following a 3-2 loss to Carolina in game two last time out. David Krejci gave Boston the lead with just over four minutes to go in the opening period but Carolina would tie the game at one thanks to Teuvo Teravainen with just under five minutes to go in the 2nd and Andrei Svechnikov would give Carolina a 2-1 lead just 1:28 later. Brad Marchand would tie the game at two for Boston with :05 to go in the middle period, and the tie would hold well into the third until Dougie Hamilton gave the ‘Canes a 3-2 lead 8:30 into the 3rd period and despite Boston holding a 15-9 edge in shots on goal in the 3rd period, the B’s wouldn’t find a tying goal as Carolina held on for the win.
James Reimer got the win in goal for Carolina after stopping 33 of 35 shots faced in the winning effort while Tuukka Rask allowed three goals on 26 shots faced in the loss for the Boston Bruins.
Boston is 1-4 in their last 5 games overall and 1-7 in their last 8 playoff games as a favorite while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games against a team with a winning record. Carolina is 7-1 in their last 8 games overall and 4-1 in their last 5 games following a win while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record. Boston is 20-8 in the last 28 meetings between these two teams.
I get why the Bruins would be favored as this is an experienced group that’s faced adversity before, whether it be one game in a series or coming back from being down. However, something still feels off about the Bruins between the pipes right now, and I’m not overly sure what the issue is. Carolina continues to get little respect after more than holding their own in the first two games of the series and I think we’re still getting fantastic value with Carolina here so I’ll back the Hurricanes to take a 2-1 series lead with a win here.
