The Vegas Golden Knights and the Colorado Avalanche meet in a round-robin matchup in NHL action from Rogers Place on Saturday.
The Vegas Golden Knights will look to clinch the top-seed in the West after improving to 2-0 in round-robin play with a 6-4 win over St. Louis in their last game. The Blues took the lead just over four minutes into the game and the lead held until St. Louis doubled their advantage less than two minutes into the second period. Shea Theodore got Vegas on the board just before the seven-minute mark of the second period on the power play and Alex Tuch would score a pair of goals 2:26 apart to tie the game at two and push Vegas in front 3-2. St. Louis would tie the game at three just :54 later, and surge ahead 4-3 just :21 after that. Once again, like the first game against Dallas, the 3rd period belonged to Vegas as Zach Whitecloud tied the game at four just over two minutes into the third before Mark Stone and Shea Theodore gave Vegas the lead and an insurance goal 2:18 apart as the Golden Knights rode the 6-4 lead to victory. Marc-Andre Fleury got the win after stopping 13 of 17 shots faced in the winning effort.
The Colorado Avalanche will look to get the top-seed themselves after a 4-0 win over Dallas in their last game to improve to 2-0 as well. Cale Makar gave Colorado the lead just over three minutes into the game before Joonas Donskoi pushed Colorado 2-0 up with 4:30 to go in the opening frame. Vladislav Namestnikov made it 3-0 for Colorado with the lone goal of the middle period and Andre Burakovsky made it 4-0 with a power play marker 1:31 into the 3rd to give Colorado the insurmountable 4-0 lead that they would use to cruise to victory. Pavel Francouz got the win after stopping all 27 shots faced in the winning effort for the shutout.
Vegas is 10-2 in their last 12 games following a win and 4-1 in their last 5 games as an underdog while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record. Colorado is 12-3 in their last 15 games following a win and 19-7 in their last 26 games overall while the under is 3-1-1 in their last 5 playoff games as a favorite. The underdog is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
There’s a lot at stake for this game, which may change people’s minds about there being little motivation to play these round-robin games. With that said, I’m still going with Vegas here. Twice I’ve backed the Golden Knights and twice through the middle of the game I’ve been kicking myself that I backed them but Vegas has also come through twice and I expect that to be no different against an Avalanche team that’s been rock solid through the first two games of the tournament so far. It also doesn’t hurt that we’re getting the better price on the Golden Knights here, so I’ll take Vegas as my free play for this game but my stronger play is on the total and I have a prop bet as well for this game and both can be found as premium picks that are available here.
