The Boston Bruins and the Buffalo Sabres meet in NHL action from the KeyBank Center on Friday night.
The Boston Bruins will look to build on a 7-3 win over the Washington Capitals in their last outing. Jake DeBrusk opened the scoring 5:37 into the game before Brad Marchand and Anders Bjork scored :27 apart to push Boston ahead 3-0. Patrice Bergeron added a 4th in the opening period to chase Caps’ goaltender Braden Holtby. Charlie Coyle made it 5-0 early on in the 2nd before Washington finally got on the board later in the period. The Capitals made it 5-2 with 4:31 to go in the game but David Krejci would score on an empty net to restore the four goal cushion. Washington would pull another goal back but Bergeron would score again to close things out and give Boston the much-needed W. Tuukka Rask got the win to improve to 14-4-5 on the year after stopping 38 of 42 shots faced in the losing effort.
The Buffalo Sabres will look to rebound after a 3-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators in their last outing. Ottawa took the lead with the lone goal of the opening period before Zemgus Girgensons tied the game at one for Buffalo with just under five minutes to go in the 2nd period. Ottawa would re-take the lead 5:16 into the 3rd and would ice the win with an empty-netter with 1:25 to go to pick up the win. Linus Ullmark ended up with the loss between the pipes, falling to 11-8-3 on the year after giving up a pair of goals on 29 shots faced in the losing effort.
Boston is 2-8 in their last 10 games overall and 40-17 in their last 57 games following a win while the under is 3-1-1 in their last 5 division games. Buffalo is 1-4 in their last 5 games overall and 19-43 in their last 62 games against the Eastern Conference while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 division games. Boston is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams and 9-1 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams in Buffalo.
The plus money with Buffalo is tempting considering that Boston’s lost 8 of their last 10 games combined with Buffalo’s record at home. However, I just think that Boston made a statement with that win over Washington at home and the Bruins have a good chance to build off of that against a Sabres team they’ve dominated over the years, including winning 9 of the last 10 in this building. I’ll side with Boston in regulation to get a more favorable price.
