The New York Rangers and the Columbus Blue Jackets meet in NHL action from the Nationwide Arena on Thursday night.
The New York Rangers will look to rebound from a 4-1 home loss to the Vegas Golden Knights in their last outing. Vegas scored a pair of goals 2:16 apart to jump ahead 2-0 within the first four minutes of the opening period and that score would hold until early in the 2nd when Vegas added two more goals over a span of 1:36 to forge ahead 4-0. Brendan Lemieux got the Rangers on the board with less than five minutes to go in the 2nd period, but that’s as close as New York got as Vegas slammed the door shut the rest of the way to preserve the victory and send the Rangers home empty-handed. Henrik Lundqvist took the loss, falling to 7-6-2 on the year after giving up 4 goals on 32 shots faced in the losing effort.
The Columbus Blue Jackets will be out to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 4-2 loss to Arizona last time out. Arizona got on the board first late in the opening period before Dean Kukan tied the game at one for Columbus 2:24 into the 2nd period. Arizona pushed ahead 3-1 by the end of the 2nd period, but Alexandre Texier pulled one back early in the 3rd to make things interesting with a goal to make it 3-2. Despite outshooting Arizona 10-8 in the 3rd, the Blue Jackets wouldn’t find a tying goal as Arizona scored an empty netter in the last minute of the 3rd period. Joonas Korpisalo took the loss, falling to 11-9-1 on the year after giving up 3 goals on 27 shots faced in the losing effort.
New York is 25-52 in their last 77 road games and 5-0 in their last 5 division games while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall. Columbus is 5-2 in their last 7 home games and 2-5 in their last 7 games as a favorite while the under is 11-4 in their last 15 division games. New York is 1-5 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
The Rangers and the plus money is tempting given the recent run that the Rangers have been on with wins in 4 of their last 6 games, but the Rangers continue to have issues on the road, dropping 4 of their 6 last games and the Rangers haven’t fared well against Columbus either, dropping 5 of 6. It’s a lean towards Columbus at home, but there’s better options on Thursday’s card.
