The Minnesota Wild and Florida Panthers meet Tuesday in NHL action at the BB&T Center.
The Minnesota Wild look for another win after winning five of their last seven games. The Minnesota Wild are averaging 2.9 goals per game and are scoring on 20.7 percent of their power play opportunities. Zach Parise leads Minnesota with 12 goals, Ryan Suter has 13 assists and Eric Staal has 54 shots on goal. Defensively, the Minnesota Wild are allowing 3.2 goals per game and are killing 81 percent of their opponents power plays. Devan Dubnyk has given up 42 goals on 392 shots faced and Alex Stalock has allowed 34 goals on 380 shots. The Minnesota Wild have allowed three or less goals in six of their last seven games.
The Florida Panthers look for a win after splitting their last 12 games. The Florida Panthers are averaging 3.5 goals per game and are scoring on 22.2 percent of their power play opportunities. Brett Connolly leads Florida with 12 goals, Aleksander Barkov has 23 assists and Mike Hoffman has 77 shots on goal. Defensively, the Florida Panthers are allowing 3.5 goals per game and are killing 84.6 percent of their opponents power plays. Sergei Bobrovsky has given up 67 goals on 580 shots faced and Sam Montembeault has allowed 20 goals on 180 shots. The Florida Panthers have allowed three or more goals in eight of their last 10 games.
The Wild are 5-13 in their last 18 games as an underdog, 5-14 in their last 19 road games and 4-12 in their last 16 games as a road underdog. The Panthers are 5-1 in their last 6 games playing on 2 days rest, 4-1 in their last 5 games as a favorite and 4-1 in their last 5 home games. The under is 4-1 in Wild last 5 road games. The over is 19-6-1 in Panthers last 26 home games. The Wild are 17-6 in the last 23 meetings. The favorite is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings. The home team is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings. The over is 3-1-1 in the last 5 meetings in Florida and 5-1 in the last 6 meetings.
The Florida Panthers are coming off possibly their best defensive performance of the season, and I've been saying for weeks that this is a title contender if they can get consistent play at that end of the ice. It's an encouraging sign from the Panthers and will be interesting to see if it can continue. The Minnesota Wild have had a nice two-week stretch, but they're still a club that struggles mightily on the road and doesn't provide much value in the underdog role. Give me the Florida Panthers and the cheap price at home.
