The Detroit Red Wings and the Philadelphia Flyers meet in NHL action from the Wells Fargo Arena on Friday afternoon.
The Detroit Red Wings will look to snap a seven-game losing streak after a 6-0 loss to Toronto last time out. Toronto went ahead 2-0 within the first 2:24 of the game while adding a 3rd just before the midway point of the opening frame. The Leafs forged ahead 4-0 1:03 into the 2nd and 6-0 just after the seven minute mark and try as they might, the Red Wings couldn’t break the seal on the Toronto net as the Red Wings were peppered 54-25 in shots on goal with Robby Fabbri leading Detroit with 4 shots on goal followed by Patrik Nemeth’s 3 shots on target. Jimmy Howard took the loss, falling to 2-11-1 on the year after allowing 3 goals on 14 shots before being pulled midway through the opening period.
The Philadelphia Flyers will look to build on a 3-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets in their last outing. Columbus opened the scoring just under five minutes into the game before Taylor Pitlick tied the game at one with 1:22 to go in the 1st. Columbus responded and restored their lead just :46 later though. Scott Laughton tied the game against for Philadelphia and Claude Giroux pushed Philly 3-2 ahead on the power play with 3:25 to go in the 2nd. Despite being outshot 15-5 in the 3rd, Philly would hold on to pick up the win. Brian Elliott got the win to improve to 6-2-2 on the year after stopping 28 of 30 shots faced in the winning effort.
Detroit is 19-49 in their last 68 road games and 16-35 in their last 51 games overall while the under is 9-2-1 in their last 12 games against the Metropolitan division. Philadelphia is 5-2 in their last 7 games as a favorite and 8-3 in their last 11 Friday games while the under is 6-0 in their last 6 games following a win. Detroit is 1-6 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams and 1-13 in the last 14 meetings between these two teams in Philadelphia.
Heavy plus money is usually worth at least considering as it just takes one bounce for you to at least double your money like it would here. However, Detroit is simply unbackable, as they’re the worst team in the league right now and just keep losing hockey games. Philadelphia has been lights out at home in the early going, picking up points in 11 of a possible 12 home games and I just think that Detroit is in for another doozy here so I’ll side with Philadelphia on the puck line as I think the Flyers cruise here.
