The New York Rangers look to shake off an ugly loss at the hands of the Tampa Bay Lightning as they continue their FLorida road trip against the Panthers on Saturday.
The Blue Shirts had one of their worst outings in quite some time against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night as they were trounced to the tune of a 9-2 final and don’t have much time to reflect as they aim to get back on track on Saturday against the Panthers. New York has ridden the early season success of rookie Kappo Kakko who has been excellent through the first quarter of the season, and while they have had flashes of brilliance lately they need to step up their play in a hurry if they’re going to be among the playoff teams in the East. New York is 8-7-1-1 through 17 games but have been dreadful on the road over the last few seasons which is bad news here against a Panthers side who is traditionally strong on home ice. Henrik Lundqvist is expected to get the start here as he will face off against Sergei Bobrovsky who continues to carve out his place as Florida’s starting goalie.
The Panthers meanwhile currently sit in third place in the Atlantic division with a 9-5-5 record but are a minus-1 when it comes to goal differential and with one of the better goalies in the league the Panthers know they need to get their offense rolling if they’re going to be a playoff team this season. Florida has some of the league’s most dynamic play makers including captain Alex Barkov who is coming off a career year statistically and will be leaned on heavily to carry the load again this season. Florida is just 6-13 in their last 19 meetings against the Rangers and will get a motivated opponent here who was crushed in their last outing and will be chomping at the bit to get back on the ice to make amends.
The Rangers are 7-2 in their last 9 trips to Sunrise and are 4-1 in their last 5 games on Saturday while the Panthers are 4-9 in their last 13 against the Metro and 2-6 in their last 8 as a home favorite. WIth both teams struggling to score and the Rangers coming off a terrible loss look for defense and goaltending to take focus here in a game that stays under.
