The Detroit Red Wings and the New York Rangers meet in NHL action from Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night.
The Detroit Red Wings will be out to snap a three game losing streak after a 6-1 beatdown at the hands of the Nashville Predators in their last outing. Andreas Athanasiou gave the Red Wings the lead just 2:35 into the game and Detroit would hold that lead going into the 2nd. That’s where all the good ended though, as Nashville tied the game two minutes into the second and pushed 4-1 ahead by the 7:36 mark with three goals in a span of 2:03. The Preds added a 5th goal in the 2nd period to make it 5-1, and chipped in a 6th for good measure early on in the 3rd. Jimmy Howard took the loss, falling to 2-7-0 after allowing 4 goals on 15 shots before being pulled in the 2nd period.
The New York Rangers will look to bounce back as well after a 6-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators in their last outing. Kaapo Kakko opened the scoring for the Rangers, but the Sens would tie the game and take a 2-1 lead by the end of the opening period. The Sens would jump ahead 5-1 with just over five minutes to go in the 2nd before Artemi Panarin pulled a consolation goal back with just over two minutes to go in the 2nd on the power play. That’s as close as the Rangers got though, as Ottawa restores the four goal cushion early on in the 3rd and rode that lead to the win. Alexandar Georgiev took the loss, falling to 3-3-1 on the year after allowing all 6 goals on 30 shots faced in the defeat.
Detroit is 1-11 in their last 12 games overall and 24-52 in their last 76 games against the Eastern Conference while the over is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record. New York is 3-7 in their last 10 games overall and 2-5 in their last 7 home games while the under is 6-2-1 in their last 9 games as a favorite. Detroit is 3-7 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams in New York.
I’d give Detroit a shot at plus money if the amount of pus money was a bit more. It’s hard to make a case for the Red Wings against a reasonable line given that Detroit has lost 11 of their last 12 games. New York got pummelled by a bad Senators team at home in their last outing, but normally the Rangers are a decent team at MSG and I think they use this game to get some frustration out after being humiliated, so I’ll lay the juice with the Rangers here and maybe even take a shot with New York in regulation to get the price down in my favor.
