The Chicago Blackhawks look for their first win of the season as they host the Winnipeg Jets at the United Center on Saturday.
The Jets look to continue their early season offensive fury as they head into the Windy City to face off against the Blackhawks who have looked rusty to start the season. Winnipeg has had a lot of distractions in the offseason as Patrik Laine was holding out for a new contract and bruising defender Dustin Byfuglien is contemplating retirement amidst some turmoil in the locker room and as such the Jets have been inconsistent to start the season. Winnipeg is 3-2 through their first 5 contests and have scored a league high 19 goals but have just a plus-one goal differential and need to find a way to slow down their opponents. That will prove rather difficult though without Byfuglien and a handful of other defenders who are sidelined with injury, which will be great news for a Blackhawks team led by Patrick Kane who is winless through two games and have scored 7 goals in the process.
The Blackhawks meanwhile are coming off a disappointing season and will look to get back into the mix in the Western Conference this season, but so far they have yet to find the win column and could very well find themselves in the same tail spin where they were a season ago. The Hawks made some moves in the offseason in hopes of getting back in the conversation as being among the league’s elite and they will be out for the first victory of the season on Saturday against a Jets team who is vulnerable in the defensive zone. The Hawks are 2-5 in their last 7 contests on Saturday and 7-3 in their last 10 games as a home favorite which bodes well for them here as a slight lean against the Jets in this one.
The Jets are 2-7 in their last 9 games following a win and have hit the under in 8 of their last 1- Saturday games while the Hawks are 7-3 in their last 10 as a home favorite and 2-5 in their last 7 overall. The Hawks are a slight favorite here but shouldn’t be for any reason right now as they don’t have the same depth as they once had while the Jets have the best offense in the league right now. Take Winnipeg as a slight dog.
