Pittsburgh’s preseason kicked off with a matchup versus the Houston Texans. The Steelers were outscored 17-0 in the first half of that game, ultimately falling 20-12. QB Kyle Allen went 17-of-23 for 193 yards, a TD and a pick. Daijun Edwards led the rush with three carries for 28 yards and a score.
Game two didn’t go much better for the Steelers. Pittsburgh faced the Buffalo Bills and lumbered through a defense-heavy loss 9-3. I’ll stay with the Lions. Detroit had some nice offensive numbers in their last game, but they also made some glaring mistakes. The Lions would end up with 459 yards (342 passing), 6.2 yards per play and 24 first downs. The three turnovers didn’t help, however the defense was good enough to keep Kansas City in check. If Detroit can get off to a good start here I think they’ll hold a lead.
As for Pittsburgh, they managed just 219 total yards (113 passing) and 13 first downs in their loss to the Bills. I expect the Steelers to focus more on offense this time and hang a few more points, so this should be a comparatively high-scoring matchup.
