Philadelphia Eagles Betting Preview

The Eagles kicked off their Super Bowl championship defense with an August 7 preseason matchup versus the Bengals. Philly overcame an early deficit in that one, scoring in every quarter along the way to a 34-27 victory. Tanner McKee did most of the QB work in that one, throwing for 252 yards and a pair of scores on 20-of-25 passing along with a rush TD. Will Shipley was the top man on the ground with seven carries for 48 yards. Darius Cooper led the receivers with six receptions for 82 yards and a touchdown, while Johnny Wilson added three grabs for 73 yards.

In game two versus the Browns last weekend, Philadelphia didn’t look quite as good. The Eagles held a 13-12 edge by the break, but didn’t score from there in a 22-13 defeat. Kyle McCord was 8-of-16 for 47 yards and a touchdown, while Montrell Johnson led a pretty ineffective rush with six carries for 20 yards. Topping the receivers was Ainias Smith with his two catches for 19 yards and a touchdown. Taylor Morin had three catches for 16 yards as well.

New York Jets Betting Preview

Over on the Jets’ side, they kicked things off this preseason with a game versus the Green Bay Packers. New York looked pretty solid on offense in that one, posting points in every quarter along the way to a 30-10 victory. Adrian Martinez managed an 11-of-16 line for 152 yards and a score. Justin Fields added 42 yards on 3-of-4 passing (with a rush TD) as well, while leading rusher Donovan Edwards put up 42 yards on nine carries. Andrew Beck was among five receivers with multiple catches, logging a pair for 36 yards to lead the team.

In their second preseason outing versus the rival New York Giants, the Jets were down 7-6 going into the second half. The Jets never got any closer than that, coughing up another 24 points from there in a 31-12 loss. Martinez had 114 yards and a pick on 12-of-21 passing this time, and Fields went just 1-of-5 for four yards. Braelon Allen had seven carries for a team-high 34 rush yards, and Brandon Smith caught five balls for 48 yards.

Eagles vs Jets Prediction

I’ll lean toward the Eagles, but this probably isn’t a game to mess with. Both teams are coming off some pretty tepid offensive performances though, so it’d be nice to see a little more pep on both sides. In any case, Philly posted just 88 offensive yards (55 passing), 2.0 yards per play, eight first downs and a pretty rough 4-of-12 result on third downs in their latest effort versus the Browns. On the other side the Eagles surrendered 331 total yards (199 passing), 5.3 yards per play, 15 first downs and 9-of-16 on third-down conversions. The two turnovers were nice, but didn’t end up helping a whole lot thanks to an ineffective offensive attack. Philadelphia has a few things to work out in this final preseason game but overall they should be fine going into the first week of the new NFL season.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Philadelphia Eagles +1.5
