Minnesota Vikings Betting Preview

Minnesota opened the year on a 3-2 run with wins over the Bears, Bengals and Browns mixed with losses to the Falcons and Steelers. The Vikings came out of their bye week on a 1-6 run over the next seven games, though. The lone win in that time was over the Lions; otherwise it was losses to the Eagles, Chargers, Ravens, Bears, Packers and Seahawks. In their first 12 games that would give the Vikings a 4-8 run overall.

In last weekend’s matchup with the Commanders, the Vikings put up points in all four quarters, rolling to a blowout shutout win 31-0 in the end. QB JJ McCarthy was 16-of-23 for 163 yards and three scores while Aaron Jones paced the rush on 14 carries for 76 yards. Jordan Addison added four catches for 62 yards in the winning effort for the Vikings as well.

Dallas Cowboys Betting Preview

Over on the Cowboys’ side, they stumbled out of the gate this year on a 3-5-1 run. Dallas beat the Giants, Jets and Commanders in that time, tied the Packers and lost to the Eagles, Bears, Panthers, Broncos and Cardinals otherwise. Since their bye week Dallas is 3-1 with wins over the Raiders, Eagles and Chiefs ahead of a loss to Detroit. Over 13 games so far that gives the Cowboys a middling 6-6-1 run this season.

Last Thursday versus the Lions, the Cowboys were down 20-9 by the end of the first half. Dallas would end up limping to a 44-30 loss at Ford Field in the end. QB Dak Prescott finished 31-of-47 for 376 yards, one TD and two picks. Javonte Williams added 17 carries for 67 yards and a score as the team’s leading rusher, and CeeDee Lamb had six catches for 121 yards in the losing effort. Ryan Flournoy added nine catches for 115 yards and a score as well.

Vikings vs Cowboys Prediction

I’ll lean slightly toward the Cowboys but I’m probably not touching this one. It should be a competitive game at least. Dallas managed 417 total yards in their latest loss to the Lions, adding 25 first downs and 5.5 yards per play. The Cowboys had three turnovers (two picks) however, which really put a damper on the offense. Defensively Dallas gave up 408 yards and 20 first downs without a takeaway. The good news is that the Cowboys have scored well since the bye with 24 or more points in all four games and 30 or more in three of those. They’ve given up 72 points combined over the last two games, though.

As for the Vikings, they demolished Washington last weekend, giving up just 206 yards, 99 pass yards, 12 first downs and 3-of-10 on third-down tries alongside three takeaways. Minnesota had scored a combined six points over the previous two weeks though, and finished below 20 points in four straight (all losses) prior to the shutout win over the Commanders.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Dallas Cowboys -6
