Recent betting trends and streaks involving the Pittsburgh Steelers
Recent betting trends in games played between the Browns and Steelers
A summary that ties it all together and produces a favorable betting outcome for the Browns vs Steelers game
The Browns opened up the season with a tough loss at home versus the Cincinnati Bengals 17-16, then fell in a blowout versus the Baltimore Ravens on the road 41-17. Game three was finally a win 13-10 over the Green Bay Packers, then came a 34-10 loss to the Detroit Lions. In that one Cleveland posted just 249 yards of offense, 3.8 yards per play, 16 first downs, 3-of-14 on third-down tries and three turnovers in a pretty rough overall effort.
In their Sunday morning matchup versus the Minnesota Vikings in London, Cleveland was up 17-14 going into the final quarter but ended up surrendering another score in a 21-17 loss. QB Dillon Gabriel finished 19-of-33 for 190 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Tops in rushing was Quinshon Judkins with 23 totes for 110 yards, and David Njoku had six catches for 67 yards and one touchdown in the losing effort.
Over on the Steelers’ side, they opened up their season with a 34-32 win over the lowly New York Jets, but then fell by two scores to the Seattle Seahawks 31-17. Pittsburgh was able to rebound the next week with a 21-14 win over the New England Patriots. In that one the Steelers gave up 369 yards total (250 passing), 5.2 yards per play and 26 first downs. The saving grace for the defense were the five takeaways (four lost fumbles). Offensively it was a pretty slow day with just 203 yards total and 17 first downs.
Matched up against the Minnesota Vikings on September 28 in their most recent outing, the Steelers held a 21-6 lead going into the final quarter. After a wild fourth that featured a 15-3 deficit, Pittsburgh was able to eke out the win 24-21 in the end. QB Aaron Rodgers finished with 200 yards and a TD on 18-of-22 passing, and Kenneth Gainwell led the rush with 19 carries for 99 yards and two scores. DK Metcalf added five receptions for 126 yards and a score of his own in the winning effort.
I’ll stick with the Steelers, but I’m probably not touching this one. Pittsburgh has to be one of the more volatile one-loss teams in the league right now, as a few of their games could easily have gone the other way. The Steelers managed 313 yards on offense in the win over Minnesota, including 182 passing yards, 5.9 yards per play, 19 first downs and a spotty 4-of-10 on third-down conversions. The defense gave up 372 yards on the other side (302 passing), 5.2 yards per play and 4-of-14 on third downs along with a couple of interceptions. Pittsburgh hasn’t given up more than 21 points in consecutive weeks, but the offense isn’t blowing anyone away right now either.
As for the Browns, they committed 10 penalties for 78 yards in their loss to the Vikings last weekend and went just 3-of-15 on third-down conversions along the way. Cleveland is in major trouble offensively this year; they’ve scored fewer than 18 points in every outing so far. The defense has been good enough to keep the Browns in a few games but I don’t think they’ll keep a tight enough lid on the rested Steelers this weekend.
