Cincinnati Bengals Betting Preview

Cincinnati didn’t take a step back record-wise last season—but they didn’t take a step forward either. The Bengals would eventually finish at 9-8 overall, matching their 2023 total and missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year. The bad news is that Cincinnati limped to a 4-8 start—their worst since the 2020 campaign. The good news? The Bengals would ultimately win their final five games to stay in the postseason mix—despite falling short at the finish line. Cincinnati’s defense wasn’t great, as they gave up 30 or more points in six of their games. Still, with an uptick in fortunes late in the season (spurred by the league’s best passing offense) hopes are high in Cincinnati heading into 2025.

The Bengals used their first two draft picks on the defensive side of the ball this year, picking up DE Shemar Stewart (Texas A&M) in the first round and LB Demetrius Knight (South Carolina) in the second. With some improvement on D and a legitimate complement to the offense, Cincinnati could easily hit double-digit wins in 2025 if all goes well.

Philadelphia Eagles Betting Preview

Over on the Eagles’ side, they’re coming off a stellar campaign a season ago, topped by another Super Bowl championship—their first since 2017—over the two-time defending title-holder Chiefs. Philly went 14-3 overall, landing in first place among the NFC East and sweeping the rival Dallas Cowboys for the first time since 2011 in the process. Philadelphia’s offense was spurred by the stellar play of Saquon Barkley, while the defense led the league in yards allowed (278.4 per game). The postseason run included wins over the Packers, Rams, Commanders and Chiefs in succession.

Needless to say, all of that is a tall order to follow in 2025. Philadelphia has their work cut out for them with a new offensive coordinator (Kevin Patullo) in head coach Nick Sirianni’s fifth year at the helm. Mekhi Becton, Josh Sweat and Milton Williams have all bolted for new teams (and hefty contracts) as well, however the team does retain a solid core group from their Super Bowl run. Barkley earned himself a nice extension (two years at $41.2 million) as did center Cam Jurgens (four years at $68 million), helping to ensure another healthy effort from the running game this season.

Bengals vs Eagles Prediction

I’m going to take a stab on the Bengals. Sure, this is just the opening game of a relatively meaningless preseason campaign. That said, It’s an interesting matchup and there will be plenty to talk about when it comes to gauging each team’s potential this year. Cincinnati’s over/under win total this year is in the neighborhood of 9.5 games, which will put them right in the mix for a playoff spot. Considering how well the Bengals played the Ravens last season, anything’s possible—so long as the defense can keep pace with the offensive effort.

As for Philly, they’ll certainly be right in the thick of things near the top of the league again this year. If the team can avoid the injury bug a playoff spot should be all but assured. It’s certainly going to be an interesting campaign.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Cincinnati Bengals -3.5
