The Washington Commanders and New York Jets meet Saturday in NFL preseason week 1 action at MetLife Stadium. Here’s a Washington Commanders vs New York Jets Prediction. This article will include a Washington Commanders vs New York Jets Pick.
Washington Commanders Betting Preview
The Washington Commanders won 4 games last and have made the playoffs once since 2016. The Commanders enter the Dan Quinn era, and he hasn’t been a head coach since 2020 with the Atlanta Falcons. The Commanders have a chance to be an intriguing team thanks to rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels and the surrounding talent. Terry McLaurin is a solid receiver, and Washington did make splashes by adding Austin Ekeler and Zach Ertz. The Commander's offensive line also isn’t terrible, so this offense could take off if Daniels can pick up the speed of the game rather quickly.
Defensively, the Commanders add veterans Frankie Luvu and Bobby Wagner, while the defensive line improves with Dorance Armstrong. The Commander's secondary has serious question marks, mainly with the loss of Kendall Fuller, but the front seven has a chance to be one of the better ones in the NFC.
New York Jets Betting Preview
The New York Jets haven’t made the postseason since 2010 and enter the fourth year under coach Robert Saleh. The Jets hope things are better this season with the health of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, as it rained on their parade in the first game with his injury. Rodgers also has to prove he’s capable of still being an elite quarterback, as he’s now 40 years old and those sorts of injuries doesn’t help an aging player. Garrett Wilson is a solid receiver and Breece Hall is one of the best running backs in the NFL, so Rodgers has weapons around him if he can stay upright.
Defensively, the Jets are arguably the best in the league. Sauce Gardner is an elite cornerback, and D.J. Reed has really come along these last couple of years. Quincy Williams and C.J. Mosley are a proven linebacker tandem, and Chuck Clark returns from injury at safety. This Jets defense is why they were able to win 7 games despite Rodgers missing the entire season. If the Jets can avoid the injury bug this time around, there’s legit potential for a franchise that hasn’t had a playoff game in over a decade.
Washington Commanders vs New York Jets Prediction
Those who have followed along know I'm only focused on quarterbacks in preseason games. You can make a case no team is as interesting at quarterback than the Commanders. Yes, Jayden Daniels is going to get the attention, but Marcus Mariota is a veteran with play making ability and Jeff Driskel has nearly 400 NFL passes with 16 touchdowns. Sam Hartman is also a gamer and a two-time ACC selection who will be eager to prove himself as a rookie. I have confidence the Commanders will be able to find consistent offensive success in the preseason. I'll lay the chalk with the Commanders on the road.
