The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Cincinnati Bengals meet in week 1 NFL Preseason action from Paycor Stadium on Saturday night. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Cincinnati Bengals prediction.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Recap

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers come into the 2024 season hoping to build on a decent 2023 campaign where the Bucs won the NFC South, if you can call that winning, finishing with a 9-8 record. The Bucs routed the Eagles 32-9 in the Wild Card round before falling to the Lions 31-23 in the divisional round. Baker Mayfield is back at QB after finding a home with the Bucs last season, throwing for over 4,000 yards, 28 touchdowns and 10 INTs. Mayfield’s receiving group is in tact with Mike Evans deciding to return and Chris Godwin back as well and Jalen McMillian is a nice upside option taken in the 3rd round of this year’s draft. Rachaad White is also hoping to make a leap in 2024 after having a decent 2023 season as the starter in Tampa Bay’s backfield. On defense, Vita Vea is back up front at nose tackle but will have to find a way to make up for the loss of Devin White to Philadelphia, leaving Lavonte David and K.J. Britt to start at linebacker for the Bucs. The Bucs also still have Antoine Winfield and added Jordan Whitehead for a formidable duo in Tampa Bay’s secondary.

Cincinnati Bengals Recap

The Cincinnati Bengals are just hoping for a happy and healthy 2024 after a disaster of a 2023 season, finishing the year 9-8 but missing the playoffs after an injury-plagued season, including returning starting QB Joe Burrow, who dealt with a calf injury early and then a wrist injury later in the year. Burrow’s top options are both back in JaMarr Chase and Tee Higgins while the Bengals also used a 3rd round pick on Jermaine Burton and brought in Mike Gesicki to upgrade the Bengals at tight end. The big question for Cincy will be the running back spot as Joe Mixon’s now in Houston, but Chase Brown was taken in the 5th-round for the Bengals and Zack Moss comes into try to light the spark again after a disappointing tenure in Buffalo. On defense, the Trey Hendrickson saga has loomed large for the offseason in Cincinnati with Hendrickson demanding a trade after logging 17.5 sacks last year. The Bengals also lost D.J. Reader, but Sheldon Rankins was signed in free agency and Myles Murphy has a lot of upside to fill the Hendrickson role on the edge. Linebacker is fairly solid for the Bengals with Logan Wilson and Germaine Pratt both in peak form coming into this year, but the secondary has a lot of moving parts and question marks that are likely to be figured out over the coming weeks.

Buccaneers vs. Bengals Prediction

I’m leaning towards the Bengals here. I don’t have a great feel for either team here, but my mantra for betting preseason football is that I like the team with more depth and it just feels like the Bengals have a lot more snaps and spots on the depth chart up for grabs than the Buccaneers do, and I also think the backups for the Bengals are just better than what the Bucs have in house. All in all it should be an interesting game, but I lean towards Cincinnati at home here.
