The New Orleans Saints will host the Detroit Lions this weekend from Sunday the Caesars Superdome on FOX. Stay tuned for our Saints vs Lions prediction.
Detroit Lions Preview
Detroit fell to 8-3 after falling to Green Bay at home, 29-22. The Lions weren’t able to erase the Packers halftime lead on Thanksgiving, and they’ll look to avoid a second straight loss here. The Detroit offense is scoring 26.8 ppg, while passing for 278.6 ypg, rushing for 139.0 ypg, and converting 39.7% of their third downs.
Detroit Player Props
• Jared Goff played well in a comeback effort last week, passing for 332 yards and two scores. The former Rams QB is enjoying a career season, and he’ll need to remain sharp with the playoffs approaching. Goff has thrown for 3,075 yards, with 18 touchdowns to 8 interceptions.
• David Montgomery has found the endzone in three straight games since returning from injury, and he leads the Lions in rushing with 648 yards on 133 carries.
• Jahmyr Gibbs has scored in four of the last five games, and he’s second on the team with 566 yards, and he’s caught 41 passes out of the backfield.
• Amon-Ra St. Brown missed the 100-yard mark by just five yards last week, and he leads Detroit in receptions (82) and receiving yards (993).
• Sam LaPorta has caught four passes or more in nine of eleven games this season, and he’s second on the team with splits of 55/539/5.
• The Detroit defense is allowing 20.6 points per game.
New Orleans Saints Preview
New Orleans fell to 5-6 after losing to Atlanta on the road, 24-15. The Saints dropped back-to-back games for the third time this season, and they’ll look to avoid a third straight defeat this Sunday. The NO offense is scoring 16.6 ppg, while passing for 219.0 ypg, rushing for 121.6 ypg, and converting 38.5% of their third downs.
Saints Player Props
• Derek Carr surpassed the 300-yard mark, but failed to produce a score in the loss to Atlanta. The former Raiders QB has delivered mixed results this season, and it’s unclear if he’ll be able to get this Saints team over the top this season. Carr has passed for 2,535 yards, with 10 touchdowns to five interceptions for the season.
• Alvin Kamara gained 119 yards from scrimmage against Atlanta, and he leads the Saints in rushing yards (457), with 54 receptions for 355 yards receiving.
• Chris Olave went for a season-high 114 yards versus the Falcons, and he leads NO in receptions (63) and receiving yards (771).
• The New Orleans defense is allowing 19.2 points per game.
Detroit vs New Orleans Trends
• DET is 6-5 against the spread, with a 5-6 O/U record.
• NO is 4-7 ATS, with a 5-6 over/under record.
Detroit vs New Orleans Prediction
It’s simply hard to trust New Orleans right now with the way they’ve called plays this season. Derek Carr has been serviceable, but the lack of creativity and proper usage has dampened their offensive approach this year, and with Detroit coming off a pair of shaky performances, we should see a sharper group here. The loss to the Packers was humbling and well-timed, and I like backing a response from the Lions here in New Orleans.
