The New York Jets will play the New York Giants in Week 3 of the NFL Preseason on Saturday night at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Jets have been tough to figure out this preseason, as they are 1-2, while the Giants have split their first two games. Which team will get the big preseason rivalry win?
Jets Preview
The New York Jets are 1-2 this preseason after they lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a score of 13-6 last week. New York took a 3-0 and 6-3 lead in the second quarter, but all their offense could muster in the game was a 31 yard field goal and a 38 yard field by Greg Zuerlein. The Jets played pretty solid defensively, but ultimately gave up the final 10 points of the game in the loss. New York was out gained by a total of 331-281 and turned the ball over three times in the game. New York played Tim Boyle (106 yards and one interception) and Zach Wilson (9/13 for 70 yards) under center in this one. The Jets went 4-12 on third down attempts and 0-1 on fourth down. New York started the preseason with a 21-16 loss in the Hall of Fame game, but looked great in a 27-0 win in their second game. The Jets were not able to keep that momentum in their last game, as they struggled to move the ball.
Giants Preview
The New York Giants are 1-1 so far this preseason after they defeated the Carolina Panthers by a score of 21-19 last week. New York had a 21-3 lead at halftime, but the offense got stuck in neutral and they were unable to score in the second half. The Giants scored on a Daniel Bellinger 4 yard reception from Daniel Jones, a Jalin Hyatt 33 yard reception from Tyrod Taylor, and an Eric Gary 9 yard run. New York out gained Carolina by a total of 290-235, but they did commit 10 penalties for 82 yards. The Giants went 5-12 on third downs, but only 1-3 on fourth down attempts. Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor both threw touchdown passes, while Tommy DeVito threw for 88 yards. New York lost their first preseason game against the Lions by a score of 21-16 and they only gained 216 yards in the loss. We saw a much better effort from New York in the first half last week, but they completely fell apart offensively in the second half. We need to see the Giants put a full game together here, regardless of who is playing.
Pick
We have the battle of New York in this game, but with it being a preseason game, it means almost nothing. The Jets have played one solid game and two below average games, while the Giants have played two solid halves, one in each game. We shouldn’t see many starters play for more than a couple of series, but I like Tyrod Taylor and Tommy DeVito for the Giants. For the Jets, I think we are going to see a good amount of Tim Boyle, which is not great news for them. I will take the points with the Giants here, as I see this game as more of a toss up.
