The San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Chargers face off on Friday in their last NFL preseason game of the year at Levi’s Stadium.
49ers Will Play Starters Here
Some teams don’t play their starters in the last preseason game, but the 49ers have made it clear they will be playing them. 49ers coach Kyle Shannahan has made it clear he doesn’t want his team to be rusty for the first game, and they hope playing the starters will help that. The 49ers have also released the depth chart for the regular season, at least in terms of the quarterback. Brock Purdy will be the starting quarterback with Sam Darnold backing him up. The 49ers have buried Trey Lance at the bottom of the depth chart, and they could end up trading him before the start of the season. In the first preseason game the 49ers were defeated 34-7 against the Las Vegas Raiders, but in the last game against the Denver Broncos they were able to secure the 21-20 victory.
Chargers Hope to Continue Offensive Momentum
The Chargers hope they are able to continue their offensive momentum against the 49ers here. In the first game the Chargers were able to beat the Los Angeles Rams 34-17 and in the last game they lost to the New Orleans Saints 22-17. In the last game Easton Stick played the entire game and the turnovers were a bit of an issue. Stick completed 21 of his 41 passes for 233 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions. Stick was a threat from the ground and he finished with seven carries for 63 yards and two touchdowns.
Shane’s Free Pick
The 49ers have the better back up quarterbacks here, and they are going to find plenty of success here. The 49ers are going to get good quarterback play, and especially Brock Purdy is going to find success here. The Chargers aren’t going to keep up, especially with Stick expected to play plenty in this game. The Chargers are going to score 17 points or less, and the 49ers will cover the spread.
