The Indianapolis Colts will play the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3 of the NFL Preseason on Thursday night at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Colts come into this game off of a nice win at home against the Bears, while Philadelphia tied the Browns last Thursday night.
Colts Preview
The Indianapolis Colts are 1-1 this preseason after they defeated the Chicago Bears by a score of 24-17 last week. The Colts were held scoreless in the first quarter of this game, but they got a Juwann Winfree four yard touchdown reception from Gardner Minshew early in the second quarter. Indianapolis wasn’t able to score for the rest of the second quarter and all of the third quarter and trailed 17-7 early in the fourth. The Colts got two touchdown runs from Sam Ehlinger and Jake Funk, while Matt Gay added a 35 yard field goal in a span of about seven minutes in the fourth quarter for the win. Indianapolis out gained the Bears by a total of 343-310 and forced one turnover in the game. The Colts went 4-11 on third down attempts and 0-2 on fourth downs. The Colts only played two quarterbacks in this game, Sam Ehlinger and Gardner Minshew. Minshew looked the best and threw for 107 yards and a score. Indianapolis did lose their first game of the preseason by a score of 23-19 on the road in Buffalo.
Eagles Preview
The Philadelphia Eagles are 0-1-1 so far this preseason after they tied the Cleveland Browns by a score of 18-18 in week 2. The Eagles gave up a safety early in the first quarter, but they were able to score a 56 yard field from Jake Elliott to take a 3-2 lead into the second quarter. Philadelphia wasn’t able to score in the second quarter, but they got a 33 yard touchdown run from Trey Sermon and a Brady Russell 22 yard touchdown reception from Tanner McKee in the second half. The Eagles were out gained by a total of 399-313 and they lost the turnover battle by a total of 2-1. Philadelphia went 2-10 on third down and 1-2 on fourth down attempts. The Eagles played Tanner McKee and Marcus Mariota under center in this game, with McKee throwing for 147 yards and a touchdown. Philadelphia lost to the Baltimore Ravens by a score of 20-19 in their first preseason game.
Pick
It sounds like the Colts will play most of their starters for at least a little bit in this game, while it sounds like the Eagles will not play their starters at all. The Eagles know that preseason results don’t mean much, but they will be looking to get their first win of the year to start the regular season on a positive note. Indianapolis comes into this game as a pretty big road favorite and even though they are expected to play some starters, it won’t be for very long. The Eagles have plenty of depth and I am going to take them with the points in this matchup at home.
