The Cleveland Browns will play the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2 of the NFL Preseason on Thursday night at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Cleveland dropped to 1-1 in the preseason after losing to Washington last week, while Philadelphia lost by one point to the Ravens.
Browns Preview
The Cleveland Browns are 1-1 in the preseason after they lost to the Commanders by a score of 17-15 last weekend. Cleveland also played in the Hall of Fame Game, where they defeated the Jets by a score of 21-16. In their loss to Washington, the Browns didn’t score an offensive point until the end of the third quarter. Cleveland got touchdowns on a pass from Dorian Thompson-Robinson to David Bell and a pass from Kellen Mond to Mike Harley Jr. The Browns did out gain Washington by a total of 387-289 and both teams had two turnovers. Dorian Thompson-Robinson had a very solid day under center, as he went 9/10 for 102 yards and a touchdown. Thompson-Robinson, Kellen Mond, and Joshua Dobbs are fighting for the backup quarterback role, but Dobbs is listed as the backup currently. The Browns moved the ball pretty well in their last game, as they converted 23 first downs and went 7-14 on third down conversions.
Eagles Preview
The Philadelphia Eagles are 0-1 this preseason after they lost to the Baltimore Ravens by a score of 20-19 in Baltimore. The Eagles got two field goals from Jake Elliott (45 yards and 49 yards) and touchdowns from Trey Sermon and Eli Ricks. Sermon scored on a two-yard run, and Ricks scored on a 31-yard interception return in the fourth quarter. After the pick six, the Eagles were stopped on the two point conversion to try to take the lead. Philadelphia out gained the Ravens by a total of 371–273 yards, but did commit seven penalties for 40 yards. Marcus Mariota looked decent as the backup quarterback, while Tanner McKee went 10/20 for 148 yards. Ian Book got limited playing time and went 1-4 with 11 yards. Book was also sacked twice for a loss of 21 yards. Rashaad Penny led the way on the ground with 34 yards on nine carries. Philadelphia converted 20 first downs, went 8-18 on third down conversions, and 2-4 on fourth down.
Pick
The Eagles will have their preseason home opener in this game, and they looked pretty solid against the Ravens in their first game. Philadelphia gave Baltimore a very tough test, but the Ravens were able to remain undefeated in the preseason since 2015. Cleveland took a small step back in their last game compared to the Hall of Fame Game, but they still moved the ball pretty well. The Eagle's first two quarterbacks are pretty much set with Hurts and Mariota, but Cleveland has a bit of a quarterback battle going on between DTR, Mond, and Dobbs. I think that quarterback battle is going to be enough to keep the Browns close in this one, and I like Cleveland with the points here.
