The Los Angeles Chargers and Los Angeles Rams face off on Saturday in a Week 1 NFL preseason game at SoFI Stadium.
Chargers Resting Starters
Since Brandon Staley has taken over the Chargers he has liked to rest his starters during the preseason so don’t expect to see many of the starters suiting up here. Justin Herbert is going to be watching this game from the sideline and he might not play at all during the preseason. On the defensive side Derwin James is also expected to wear the cap on the sideline for this game. A couple of the young Chargers are expected to play plenty in this game including Daiyan Henley and Quentin Johnston. One other position to watch is the backup quarterback. Max Duggan was a star at TCU but he’s battling to even make the roster here. This is going to be a big game if he wants to make the team.
Rams Getting Younger
The Rams are getting younger and there are a lot of position battles that are going to come to a head here. Brian Allen and Coleman Shelton are currently listed as co-starters under center and both players should get plenty of run in this game. The Rams also currently have four quarterbacks on the roster and they are going to need to figure that position out Brett Rypein, Stetson Bennett, and Dresser Winn are currently on the team and they are all going to be battling here. One other big battle is going to be the third wide receiver. Cooper Kupp and Van Jefferson are both locked into their spots. Tutu Atwell, Ben Skowronek, Puka Nacua, and Demarcus Robinson are all trying to win that spot.
Shane’s Free Pick
This game is going to come down to Max Duggan and he’s going to have a big game here. Duggan was a standout at TCU and he’s going to be strong here. I am also not really sold on any of the Rams backup quarterbacks and the Rams are going to really struggle to get any type of offense going here. This is going to be an easy victory by the Chargers. Back the Chargers against the spread.
