The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and San Francisco 49ers face off on Sunday in an NFL showdown at Levi Stadium. When these two teams faced off in 2019 it was the 49ers that secured the 31-17 victory.
The Buccaneers come into this game with a 6-6 record, and they have gone 3-8-1 against the spread. In the last game against the New Orleans Saints, the Buccaneers made a comeback in the last minutes, and they were able to secure the 17-16 victory. Tom Brady completed 36 of his 54 passes for 281 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. The Buccaneers are averaging 18.1 points, while their defense is giving up 18.3 points per game. The offense is ranked 27th, while the defense is ranked 5th in the league. One issue with this Buccaneers team is they haven’t had a consistent running game.
On the other side of this matchup is the 49ers, who sit with an 8-4 record, and they have gone 7-5 against the spread. In the last game against the Miami Dolphins, the offense scored 33 points, and that led to the blowout victory. Jimmy Garoppolo did suffer a broken foot in that game, and it’s now the Brock Purdy show. In the last game he completed 25 of his 37 passes for 210 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. San Francisco is averaging 23.5 points, while their defense is giving up 15.8 points per game. The defense is ranked number one in the NFL. Purdy looked good in the first game, but he’s going to need to be even better in this game.
Tampa Bay is 1-9-1 against the spread in their last 11 games on grass. The under is 5-0 in the Buccaneer's last five games. The under is 5-0 in the Buccaneer's last five games following a straight-up win. The under is 4-0 in the 49ers last 4 games after scoring more than 30 points in their previous game.
These are both good defensive teams, and the defense is going to be the strength here for both squads. I do believe Purdy is going to take a step back here, and outside of the last four minutes of the last game, Tom Brady looked terrible. Both offenses are going to struggle to move the ball here, and this game is going to stay under the total.
Shane’s Pick Under 37.5
