The Houston Texans and New York Giants face off on Sunday in an NFL showdown at MetLife Stadium. The Giants have won the last four games over the Texans.
The Texans come into this game with a 1-6-1 record overall, and they are coming off another loss in the last game. In the last game against the Philadelphia Eagles, they were tied at halftime, but the offense only scored three points in the second half and that led to the 12-point defeat. Davis Mills completed 13 of his 22 passes for 154 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Mills isn’t terrible, but he’s not the long-term answer for the Texans at quarterback. The Texans are averaging 16.6 points, while their defense is giving up 22.9 points per game.
On the other side of this matchup is the Giants, who are coming off a bye and sit with a 6-2 record. In the last game against the Seattle Seahawks, the Giants' offense scored only 13 points, and that led to the 14-point defeat. Quarterback Daniel Jones completed 17 of his 31 passes for 176 yards. Jones has taken some steps forward, but at times he reverts to the old Daniel Jones. The Giants are averaging 20.4 points, while their defense is giving up 19.6 points per game.
The Texans are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games against a team with a winning record. The Giants are 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games following a straight-up loss. The under is 8-3 in the Texan's last 11 road games. The under is 7-0 in the Giant's last seven games in November. The underdog is 4-1 against the spread in the last five meetings played between the two teams.
I don’t really trust either of these quarterbacks, but I’m not willing to lay this type of number with Jones against anyone. In the last game, the Giants scored only 13 points, and I don’t think they score many more than that. Mills is going to lead the Texans to enough offensive success to keep this game close. Back the Texans against the spread.
