Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars - 10/9/22 NFL Picks and Prediction
The Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars face off on Sunday in a Week 5 NFL showdown at EverBankField. On December 19th the Texans knocked off the Jaguars 30-16.
Houston comes into this game with an 0-3-1 record overall and they have gone 2-1-1 against the spread. In the last game against the Los Angeles Chargers they were down 27-7 at halftime and although they made a comeback in the second half, it wasn’t enough as they lost 34-24. They allowed Justin Hebert to throw it all over the field and the defense needs to be better in this game. Davis Mills hasn’t been awful this season and in the last game he completed 26 of his 35 passes for 246 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Houston is averaging 18.3 points while their defense is giving up 23.3 points per game.
On the other side of this matchup is the Jaguars who sit with a 2-2 record but they look like they are close to turning the corner. At the end of the first quarter against the Eagles in the last game, they were up 14-0 but they couldn’t hold on and ended up losing 29-21. Trevor Lawrence completed 13 of his 23 passes for 174 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. In the last game they didn’t get a ton of success on the ground and they need a more balanced attack in this game. Jacksonville is averaging 26.3 points while their defense is giving up 16.8 points per game.
The Texans are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games against the AFC. The Jaguars are 3-9 against the spread in their last 12 games. The Texans are 4-1 against the spread in the last five meetings against the Jaguars. The over is 5-2 in th last seven meetings in Jacksonville.
The Jaguars are probably the better team here, but the Texans are being disrespected with this line. Davis Mills has proven he can sling the ball and the Jaguars' defense struggled to stop the Eagles in the last game. I’m not saying the Texans have the same offense as the Eagles, but they are going to find enough offensive success to keep this game close. Back the Texans against the spread.
