Detroit Lions at New England Patriots - 10/9/22 NFL Picks and Prediction
The Detroit Lions and New England Patriots face off on Sunday in a Week 5 NFL showdown at Gillette Stadium. The last time these two teams played was in 2018 and the Lions won 26-10.
The Lions come into this game with a 1-3 record overall, and although they are one of the most exciting teams in the NFL, it hasn’t been resulting in wins. In the last game against the Seattle Seahawks, the Lions scored 45 points, but their defense gave up 48 points and that was another loss. Jared Goff is having a strong season and in the last game, he completed 26 of his 39 passes for 378 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Jamaal Williams had a big game rushing 19 times for 108 yards and two touchdowns. De’Andre Swift is doubtful for this game with a shoulder injury. Armon-Ra St. Brown is also dealing with an ankle injury and is questionable. The Lions are averaging 35 points while their defense is giving up 35.3 points per game.
On the other sdie of this matchup is the Patriots who sit with a 1-3 record but they almost pulled off the big upset in the last game against the Green Bay Packers. Third stringer Bailey Zappe came in and completed 10 of his 15 passes for 99 yards and a touchdown. Damien Harris rushed 18 times for 86 yards and a touchdown. Mac Jones is out for the Patriots and Brian Hoyer has been played on the IR which means that this game will come down to Zappe. The Patriots are averaging 18.5 points while their defense is giving up 24.5 points per game.
The Lions are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games overall. The Patriots are 28-10 against the spread in their last 38 games against a team with a losing record.
Zappe knows how to sling the ball, and the Lions defense is awful. The Lions offense though is elite and they are going to have no issue running up the score against the Patriots. There aren’t going to be many punts in this game, and It wouldn’t shock me if this game got close to 80 points. Back the over to cash here with ease.
