The Los Angeles Chargers and Jacksonville Jaguars clash Sunday afternoon in week 3 NFL action at SoFi Stadium. The Los Angeles Chargers also look to improve to 2-1 on the season. The Jacksonville Jaguars look to get a game above a .500 record.
The Los Angeles Chargers have won 6 of their last 9 home games. Justin Herbert is completing 72 percent of his passes for 613 yards, 6 touchdowns and 1 interception. Gerald Everett and Mike Williams have combined for 248 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns, while DeAndre Carter has 6 receptions. The Los Angeles Chargers ground game is averaging 75.5 yards per contest, and Austin Ekeler leads the way with 75 yards on 28 carries. Defensively, Los Angeles is allowing 23 points and 319.5 yards per game. Derwin James Jr. leads the Los Angeles Chargers with 15 tackles, Khalil Mack has 3.5 sacks and Asante Samuel Jr. has 1 interception.
The Jacksonville Jaguars haven’t won a road game since December 2019. Trevor Lawrence is completing 68.1 percent of his passes for 510 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. Christian Kirk and Zay Jones have combined for 283 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns, while Evan Engram has 11 receptions. The Jacksonville Jaguars ground game is averaging 109.5 yards per contest, and James Robinson leads the way with 130 yards and 2 touchdowns. Defensively, Jacksonville is allowing 14 points and 304 yards per game. Devin Lloyd leads the Jacksonville Jaguars with 17 tackles, Josh Allen has 2 sacks and Rayshawn Jenkins has 1 interception.
The Jaguars are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 road games and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Chargers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in September and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games in Week 3. The under is 13-5 in Jaguars last 18 games overall. The over is 6-2 in Chargers last 8 games overall. The Jaguars are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Los Angeles and 1-10 ATS in their last 11 meetings.
The Los Angeles Chargers are going to get the benefit of the doubt at home, especially with having extra time to prepare for this contest. With that said, the Chargers ground game still has yet to get going, and it’s a bit of a concern. The Jacksonville Jaguars have also played well through 2 games, especially on the defensive side, where they’re third in run defense and sixth in scoring defense. You also have the thing where home field advantage rally isn’t an advantage for the Chargers. I’m just not excited to lay a full touchdown with the Chargers here. I’ll take a shot with the Jags.
Update: It looks like Herbert may not be able to go for the Chargers. Even if he does play, he's going to be dealing with pain. The Jaguars could easily win this game outright if things break correctly. It's Jacksonville or pass for me.
