The Houston Texans and Chicago Bears face off on Sunday in a Week 3 NFL showdown at Soldier Field. When these two teams faced off in December of 2020 it was the Bears that secured the 36-7 victory.
The Texans have had a tie and a loss so far this season. In the first game they played to a 20-20 against the Indianapolis Colts, and in the last game they lost to the Denver Broncos 16-9. Under center for the Texans is Davis Mills and in the last game he completed 19 of his 38 passes for 177 yards, zero touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Dameon Pierce looks to be the new starting running back and in the last game he rushed 15 times for 59 yards and a touchdown. The defense hasn’t actually been awful this season, they just need more production out of the offense or this will be a long game.
On the other side of this matchup is the Bears who sit with a 1-1 record. In the first game the Bears beat the San Francisco 49ers 19-10, but in the last game, they lost to the Green Bay Packers 27-10. Justin Fields in the last game only completed 7 of his 11 passes for 70 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception. In this game, the Bears need to allow him to pass more if they want to win. Running back David Montgomery did have a big game finishing with 15 carries for 122 yards.
The Texans are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games. The Texans are 5-0 against the spread in their last 5 games after accumulating less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game. The under is 4-0 in the Bears last four games in September.
I’m not sure if the Bears just don’t trust Fields, but the fact they don’t allow him to throw the ball has been a bit shocking. In this game, the Bears offense is going to struggle and that is going to be enough for the Texans to get the job done. The Texans are the underdogs, but we don’t need the points. Back the Texans on the money line.
