Carolina Panthers at New York Giants - 9/18/22 NFL Picks and Prediction
The Carolina Panthers and New York Giants face off on Sunday in a Week 2 NFL showdown at MetLife Stadium.
There weren’t a ton of expectations surrounding the New York Giants heading into the season, but they were able to secure a win in the first game of the season. The Giants outscored the Titans 8-0 in the 4th quarter and that was enough to secure the 21-20 victory. Daniel Jones completed 17 of his 21 passes for 188 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Saquon Barkley looks to be the Barkley of old and he finished with 18 carries for 164 yards and a touchdown. On defense, even though they gave up 20 points, they looked disruptive and in this game, the defense needs to create some turnovers.
On the other side of this matchup is the Panthers and they opened up the season with a 26-24 defeat by the Cleveland Browns. Under center for the Panthers is Baker Mayfield and he completed 16 of his 27 passes for 235 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. One issue in the first game was the Panthers had issues getting anything going on the ground. Christian McCaffrey was the top running back and he rushed for 33 yards and a touchdown. Robbie Anderson had a big game catching five passes for 102 yards and a touchdown. The defense in the first game wasn’t great, and they were lucky to keep it within two points. They outscored the Browns 17-6 in the 4th quarter.
The Panthers are 4-1 in their last five games in September. The Giants are 1-6 in their last seven games overall. The Panthers are 1-5 against the spread in the last six meetings against the Giants. The over is 4-1 in the last five meetings in New York.
I still am not sold on either Mayfield or Jones and I expect both offenses are going to really struggle to score in this game. The Giants scored only 21 points in Game 1, and they will score lower than that here. Look for both teams to finish under 20 points, and the under is going to cash.
