The Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams face off on Thursday to kick off the NFL season at SoFi Stadium. When these two teams faced off in September 2020 it was the Bills that won 35-32.
The Rams are coming off a Super Bowl victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, and they have expectations of winning another one. The Rams have Matthew Stafford back under center and last year he completed 67.2 percent of his passes for 4,886 yards, 41 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions. Cooper Kupp is the star out wide, and Allen Robinson II is in the fold. Odell Beckham Jr isn’t on the team anymore, but this offense should still be one of the best in football. On defense, it revolves around Aaron Donald, who is one of the best players in all of football. Gone is Von Miller, who joined the Bills, and the offense is going to need to find a way to keep him out of the backfield.
On the other side of this matchup is the Bills, and although they didn’t do enough to win last season, this is a team that believes they can’t win the first Super Bowl in team history. There were questions about Josh Allen coming out of college, but it’s clear he is one of the best players in the league. Stefon Diggs is back, but the rest of the wide receivers are also strong with Gabriel Davis, Isaiah McKenize, and Jamison Crowder. Dawson Knox is also not talked about enough for how much value he brings to this offense. The team brought in Miller this offseason, and there is no doubt that he is going to be fired up to face his old team.
The Rams are 5-0 against the spread in their last five games in Week 1. The Rams are 1-7-1 against the spread in their last nine games as a home underdog. The over is 5-0 in the Ram's last five games in September.
This game is coming down to Von Miller. If the Rams had Miller, I would expect their defense to be strong, but not having him is a big loss, and I expect a big game from Allen. The Bills are going to be fine getting into a shootout here because they have the better quarterback. Look for the Bills to score at least 31 points here, and that will be enough to get the job done. Back the Bills against the spread.
