The Detroit Lions will play the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3 of the NFL Preseason at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Sunday afternoon.
The Detroit Lions are 1-1 this preseason after losing to Atlanta by a score of 27-23 in Week 1 and defeating Indianapolis by a score of 27-26 last week. In their win last week, Detroit was able to stop a two-point conversion with 38 seconds left on the clock to secure the win. Detroit said they would play their starters for about a half in this game, with the exception of Jared Goff. Tim Boyle and David Blough will handle the quarterback duties for the Lions in this game. Detroit has looked alright on the offensive side, but their defense has allowed 26.5 points per game through two games.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are 2-0 this preseason after defeating Seattle by a score of 32-25 in Week 1 and Jacksonville by a score of 16-15 in Week 2. In their last game, Pittsburgh was able to score a touchdown with 1:56 left in the game to get the win against the Jaguars. Pittsburgh scored 10 unanswered points to end the game. Pittsburgh will also play their starters for about a half and they have a fierce quarterback competition going on between Trubisky and Pickett. With the starting quarterback position still open, I expect a good offensive showing from both of these guys.
Detroit is 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games. The under is 6-2 in Detroit’s last 8 road games. The under is 4-0 in Pittsburgh’s last 4 home games and the under is 9-4 in Pittsburgh’s last 13 games on grass. The underdog is 4-1 ATS in these two teams last 5 head to head meetings.
Detroit has been competitive in this preseason, but their defense has really struggled. I expect the Steelers offense to have plenty of scoring drives as they try to figure out who will start at quarterback. Detroit will hang in there for a little bit, but Pittsburgh will pull away.
